MUBI: Streame großartiges Kino

I really like that it’s a streaming service with actually good films, but as many movies I really want to watch don’t have English subtitles and while I live in Germany, I really don’t want to see a movie from Norway or Shanghai with German subtitles- my German isn’t good enough for that. If you’re offering international films, you should also offer English subtitles

What a refreshing selection of movies from the usual mainstream streamers. The app is kept very simple. There is a watchlist. No scoring of any kind after you watched a picture there is no way that I found to display what you’ve already seen. Navigation is unusual, because they don’t go via the classical „comedy, horror, thriller, documentary etc“ rails and instead have a selection by a certain theme or director or topic. Hence the „curated“ aspect I suppose. It takes getting used to. If you’re in the mood for a comedy it can be a while to find a fitting one. Basic title information shows merely the name, location and year, not the category, no social score. In fact, the category is located all the way at the bottom in the details. Some movies are categorized as a comedy but are anything but a comedy. I’ve randomly dived into most flicks and enjoyed 60% of what I saw. I would love to have a filter: no movies older than 1990, or exclude a particular genre (horror perhaps), or black/white. It would help a lot. On a side note, I’ve noticed video stuttering if my Apple TV 4K is paused while connected to my Bose headphones and then resumed. I need to reboot everytime to get rid of the stuttering, but that may not be mubi‘s fault.

I love exploring films from the MUBI’s wide range of collection.

Danke :)
