Lichess

The old app is great I love it. The old app does everything I need a chess app to do. This new version is beyond me. I dont understand it. I cant find any of the features that I use on the old app. Where are my studies? My imported games? One of the things I do the most is import OTB games and learn from my mistakes. This new app lets me import a game but tells me nothing.

This chess app is what the world used to be like. Wonderful, ad-free, and it isn’t designed to steal all your information or take your money. I’m so happy that there are people who just want to give the world a way to play a great game for free. Thank you for doing a tremendous good in the world. I am deeply grateful to the beautiful people who made this app AND continue to improve it. I have so little money and this app makes chess accessible to me and countless others. May God bless you all.

The “learn from your mistakes” feature takes nearly a minute to do anything. It’s faster to copy the pgn and import it into chess.com. Plus the analysis is not at all informative. It tells you the right answer without any rationale and without enabling the exploration of lines.

This is THE best chess app I have ever used. It's great for kids with a kid mode with no social media option. As for adults you can play multipule types of Chess with a forum for everyone. Great for puzzles, chat, and everyday chess. Deffinatley recommend.

I’m not sure if I can fully put to words how incredible lichess is as an app, a platform and a community work. For professionals and casual players alike, it’s important to get this significance. Lichess is an established, well developed, free, place to play, analyze, and learn chess. After using chess.com for over a year of premium, I can say I’ve learned more in a month here than I ever did over on chess.com. Ive played with more diverse player base and taken the community published lessons to clubs and meetups more than once. Happily giving this donation based development a huge thanks and will continue to offer more support as time goes on. Keep up the great work!!

First of all, as a free chess resource Lichess is amazing. But since this is a review, I need to point out the negatives too. There are so many features that I feel I've only scratched the surface. But what's been uncovered by that scratch is impressive. Since I'm only a casual chess enthusiast I rarely play anyone but mostly use it for studying and the occasional game with the computer to test what I've been learning. The ability to make your own customized studies is so much better than using a physical board -- because it provides a way to organize and review what you've learned while also including variations. But don't expect for it to be easy to learn how to use. For example, it took me quite a while to figure out how to make a variation from the main line of a game, I'm studying and even now I'm not completely sure I'm doing it right. So one of the main problems I see is poor help materials on how to use the site. On the other hand, there is a way to get help via their forum and I really appreciate that. But Lichess is an incredibly powerful software tool with all sorts of hidden features yet a steep learning curve.
