Substack

I understand the case that one should boycott Substack, because of its tolerance for, and perhaps effectively support for, far-right extremist feeds, and this has made me doubtful. However, they have been successful in assembling a portfolio of interesting-to-those-not-interested-I’m-such-content feeds, and I don’t think it’s good to avoid the content of such feeds. Overall, I think Substack is an important place for the kind of content that used to take place in the blogosphere, and while dealing with it’s hosting of far-right-extremist content deserves attention, attacking the reader of decent content doesn’t seem a good strategy. So I think you should put aside your reservations about the problematic content read the good content, and support other strategies for dealing with the problem.

I’ve started writing on Substack 2 days ago and I’m already liking the interface and distribution features of the platform. Everything will be handled if you’ve a good niche you can start writing upon and building an audience. Just ensure subscribers pay through Substack website & not the app. Apple/Google take a 30% cut of your creator revenue if your subscribers pay through mobile apps. Valid as of writing this review.

Substack has done something quietly remarkable: it rebuilt the direct relationship between writer and reader in a digital world increasingly designed around attention extraction and intermediaries. What makes Substack particularly exciting is not simply what it has already achieved, but what it could become next. The next evolution of independent publishing will not be only about distributing ideas. It will be about giving creators and readers greater sovereignty over the economic relationship between them: making value global, portable, and less dependent on traditional intermediaries. This is where decentralized technologies and Web3 become relevant; not as speculation or branding, but as infrastructure. Imagine a Substack where a writer in Berlin can be supported as effortlessly by a reader in Buenos Aires, Nairobi, or Tel Aviv as by someone next door; where relationships, value, and ownership can move as freely as ideas already do. Substack has already changed how we publish. The next question is whether it will help change how independent publishing is owned. That would be another quiet revolution. Onwards and upwards!

I like this plattform quite a lot which makes me quite sad to have to take so many stars away. The main issue of mine is that after I had enjoyed connecting and reading I got upset by the sheer volume of unintelligible posts that started piling up in my feed. No matter how many times I would click on not interested amd stating the reason for the algorithm to understand the filter and even having to block the person, foreign posts kept coming up. Is it really that difficult for an application to show posts from people from the same country as the ip the user has?? Doesn't make much sense...

As a blind person, I was unable to navigate and use the appp satisfactorily. It is simply not accessible enough through VoiceOver, which is really deplorable considering how Substack boasts being a platform for diverse and often unheard voices.
